I'm happy to explain my practices without anyone needing an advanced degree in physics.  I certainly don't have one (ask me how many times I had to take algebra).  Suffice it to say my monitors (and printers) are regularly calibrated - profiled - and images are delivered in the desired color-spaces and resolutions.

While some people find the whole subject daunting, two great resources are available to explain digital best-practices and terminology in plain language – for free.

dpBestflow

www.dpbestflow.org  This website is funded by the Library of Congress, administered and produced by ASMP (The American Society of Media Photographers).  The LOC wants to insure that the digital assets it recieves and preserves are able to stay safe for future generations.  The information is accesible at every level of expertise, from the most basic onward.  You don't even need to register, and it's updated constantly.  There's also a book, if you get tired of looking at a screen.

The PLUS Coalition

www.useplus.com   PLUS is a consortium of companies and organizations whose aim is to clarify - and rationalize - useage and licensing terms, and support best practices between photographers and clients of all kinds, including direct clients, advertisers, and publications.  Lots of people have signed on, from major publishers to Adobe.
